If you are a car manufacturer and you never built a bike you should do it like Lotus. Get the next vehicle designer star and lock him in a room with his toys. You wait and hope that the outcome will be something visionary. German born Daniel Simon had a solid reputation as the next Syd Mead who did the set design for Bladerunner, Tron, Alien or Elysium, just to name a few. Ex-car designer Daniel (VW Group) himself reinvented the Lightbike for Tron Legacy and came up with the only two cool things in Oblivion: The drone and the dragonfly shuttle. And now the C-01 superbike. Tron-esque but in a 2014 way.
Simon said: “The design process of the C-01 was a labour of love, there were many challenges, ensuring that the bike not only touches your visual senses with its timeless blend of classic appeal and modern execution, but that is safe and ergonomically sound was critical to me. We have worked hard to create a motorcycle with very distinctive features such as a clean main body, an extremely low side profile, a bold stance, a unique air intake, logical partline solutions and clean graphics.”
Hanging between the two wheels is a 4-stroke engine, 200bhp V-Twin. That’s much power in something that weighs only 181 kg. Only a series of 100 largely customisable C-01 will leave the shop soon so collectors will very likely kill to get one.
If you are not in the superbike collector´s club there is a nice book with Daniel Simon´s futuristic rides called Cosmic Motors with a foreword by Syd Mead. You can get a paperback for 26 Dollars. The Hardcover edition is pricy.
