The japanese company Chinon introduced the Bellami HD1 a pistol-grip retro style FullHD 1080p camera. And it looks like it could give this style of filming a small comeback. Small because this camera is tiny. Which is not a bad thing because size definitely has never been a cool feature of the original type of cameras. And comeback because it indeed looks very stylish. Design-wise it seems to have the ingredients to appeal to the hip crowd. This is what you want to be seen filming with or being filmed with either way. Other than a real Super 8 from back in the days you can carry it around without looking to much as a film nerd and still be way cooler than any smartphone Antonioni.
The Bellamy HD1 captures video with either 10, 20 or 30 frames on a SD-card. It has a 3,5mm audio jack, an aux-port and as well as a usb- and a hdmi port. And it seems there are a manual zoom and a flash socket. Not bad, not bad at all. The price tag is rumored to be at 850 $.
And there is a someone who made an unboxing video.
You find a lot more about what quality the camera actually captures in this video diary.
Also there seems to be quite a variety of interchangeable lenses available in this online shop.
